Hey guess what guys? I ran out of sriracha the other day..
Naturally, I decided to go to the store and buy more buy 1 lb of peppers to make my own.
I mean, okay maybe not so naturally. Natural for a food blogger though right? And someone who likes challenges..
Can never go the easy way.
But boy oh boy am I GLAD I MADE IT.
Can I just tell you guys that it is SO YUMMY homemade?!
Not to mention it makes your house SMELL SO GOOD.
My mom walked in and was like..what are you cooking?! I want it!
Too bad she was disappointed when I told her because she doesn’t like spicy things. (gasp what?!).
Yep..so it was ALL FOR ME. Not sure I would have let her have any of it anyways..
Yeah, it was THAT GOOD.
So next time you guys get a little crafty and want to do a DIY project..go buy some peppers. Actually A LOT OF peppers.
You’ll thank me.
And so will anyone who walks in your house during the making..
- 1 lb of Chili or Serrano Peppers
- 4 Cloves of Garlic, peeled and chopped
- 1/3 cup White Vinegar (or other vinegar)
- 3 tbsp Tomato Paste
- 2 tbsp Liquid Aminos (or soy sauce)
- 1-2 packets Stevia (depending on desired sweetness; can sub in 1-3 tbsp honey)
- Optional: 1-2 tsp Garlic Powder (for more garlic flavor if desired)
- Salt as needed (I tried to add as little possible, probably about 1/2 tsp)
- Stem, seed, and roughly chop all of your peppers
- Place all ingredients into a blender (I used the big nutribullet) and blend until smooth
- Add to a pot on the stove and cook on low heat for 1-2 hours. (I just walked away and got things done during this part!)
- Allow to cool and refrigerate until using.
- Makes about an 8oz jar.
