I began following Sarah Grace (on social media) my freshman year of high school. She didn’t really know who I was but I definitely knew who she was. She was the beautiful and talented runner who that year became the state champion in cross country. Little did I know there was so much more to her. She possessed the high morals and values that everyone wished they could obtain. To say I was obsessed with her is an understatement. Sarah Grace was everything I wanted to be and more. She instantly became my role model. I became the person I am today and I have Sarah Grace to thank for that. She doesn’t even realize the extent of how much I look up to her. I knew if I worked as hard as Sarah Grace did, if I continued to make the right choices (both in high school and college) then I could accomplish any goal I set forth. Whether it be running, school, personal, or health related I repeated my mantra “What would Sarah Grace Spann do?”. I credit her for a big portion of where I am today. Maybe I felt more connected to Sarah Grace because we shared a similar past. We both struggled with an eating disorder at an early age and were learning how to live a healthy life again. I was never open about my condition with anyone so it was refreshing to know I was not alone. I never wanted my ED to define who I was and Sarah Grace showed me that it was possible. She was the affirmation that a bump in the past doesn’t define you, but strengthens you. Her creation of Fresh Fit and Healthy is a prime example. Sarah Grace has showed me how to overcome an obstacle and succeed with flying colors. She showed me how to love myself again and I couldn’t’ be more thankful.
