In our generation, the use of social media and technology is on THE RISE. And there really is a lot of good that has come from it, hence things like me being able to express myself on here. But with good, typically comes some negatives..and along the same lines of this article from Huffington Post, I had some thoughts today.
See, back in January I made this video, where I talked about what goals I wanted to set for myself..and one of the greatest ones was “where ever I am, be fully there”.
Now you may be asking, what does that mean?
Well see, as a girl that is, mmm, what’s the best word I can use to describe it..perfectionist? Yes that’s probably the best one haha. See, as a perfectionist, I tend to always have an agenda, a schedule of things I have to do that day..and I put 110% of myself into it all until I accomplish it..and more.
It is what has brought me to where I am today, and continues to be one of my best qualities..but it also just so happens to be one of my downfalls too.
This very driven, perfectionism tends to lead to me not always be “fully there”, whether it be in time spent with friends, or conversations with family. My mind in constantly running, and most of the time I catch myself mid conversation, thinking about what the next thing I have to do is or feeling stressed about one thing or another.
And then throw in the NEWEST distraction: the rise of technology and social media. Having both a personal instagram, personal facebook, blog, and then twitter, instagram, snapchat, and youtube channel for Fresh Fit N Healthy..things get a little, BUSY. I’m sure this is something you are all aware of.
I have seen so much good come from all the social media, in my personal life and in my professional life.. But then I get sad when I see things like..kids not even playing outdoors anymore, something I never went a day without as a child, instead playing video games or stuck on their phones. Or going out to dinner and seeing the whole table of people on their phones instead of engaging in conversation with each other..
Hence my goal this lovely year of 2015 t0 “be fully there”. To put my crazy schedule, my stresses, my constant focus on checking emails and social media, and everything else ON HOLD sometimes, and just enjoy the moment that I am in. To put the phone away when I’m with people. To simply be fully there with my friends and family. To fully experience those special moments in life that end up becoming memories you’ll never forget.
I have to admit, I haven’t perfected it yet or even been close..but today I decided to be more conscious about it and try harder to BE FULLY THERE in the moment, where ever I may be.
I don’t know, just some thoughts. What are your thoughts on social media? Positive or negative to you? How do you make sure to take some time away from it and just “be fully there” with your friends and family??
I’d love to hear!
And thank you for voting for me!
Until next time,
xo Sarah Grace
