Thank you Sarah Grace for having us today! 🙂
We’re The Super Sisters, Liz & Sara, two sisters and NSCA-Certified Personal Trainers with a passion for healthy food and fitness. Growing up in Michigan, we struggled a lot in our younger years learning how to live an active, healthy lifestyle. We’ve since uncovered the secrets for how to make fitness FUN and now we spread this message at our blog, GoSuperSisters.com.
Our goal is to help people everywhere keep up their fitness routine long term in a safe, sustainable way.
After years of practice in the gym and tons of hours spent developing healthy recipes in the kitchen, we’ve uncovered a few tips & tricks for how to stay fit and lean year-round. Our job now is to share all this info with you!
Last year we began blogging with the intention of helping other women learn how to keep eating their favorite foods, but just make them into healthier versions instead. We both have a big sweet tooth, so we’re constantly turning desserts and other typical “junk food” items into protein-packed kitchen creations that support your fitness lifestyle.
Working as professional personal trainers, we help people learn proper exercise form daily in order to promote their long term health. We are very big on injury prevention, and you can trust that any exercise challenge we provide will give you the best breakdown available. We even have a few full strength training programs you can try in the comfort of your own home!
With Christmas coming up, we have teamed up with Sarah Grace to write this special guest post in order to share a few of our favorite healthy holiday recipes!
Today we’ll be showing you two recipes, and we’ll start with our sugar cookies – WITHOUT using any sugar since no one wants all those extra calories! 🙂 Our Skinny Sugar Cookies will satisfy your sweet tooth without the sugar.
This cookie was a staple in our house growing up, and we’re glad to be able to share a healthier alternative with you now. Get the whole family together to decorate them and we promise they won’t even notice they’re sugar-free!
- 2.5 cups all purpose flour
- 1 egg
- 1 egg white
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, room temperature
- 1 cup baking stevia*
- 2 tsp vanilla
- 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1/4 tsp salt
- *feel free to reduce the amount of stevia to 1/2 cup and increase sugar content to 1/2 cup for those who aren’t used to sugar free desserts, or use a full cup of sugar for a stevia-free version 🙂
- For the frosting*:
- 4 oz cream cheese, room temperature
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, room temperature
- 1/4 cup powdered sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
- * alternatively, you can omit the cream cheese and increase powdered sugar to 1/2 cup
- In a medium bowl, beat butter and vanilla until smooth. Add your egg and egg white, and beat until well combined. In another bowl mix all your dry ingredients (flour, baking powder, stevia, sugar and salt) and stir until thoroughly mixed. Slowly add your dry ingredients to your other bowl and mix until dough forms. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30-45 minutes.
- When ready to bake, preheat your oven to 350 degrees. Line a two baking sheets with parchment paper or spray with non-stick spray. Lightly flour your surface, roll out dough to 1/4 inch thick, and use cookie cutter to cut out your favorite shapes! Bake for 8-10 minutes and let cool.
- In a small bowl, mix all ingredients for the frosting and spread over the cookies once cool. Feel free to add in food coloring to decorate!
Next up is our clean Almond Chocolate Cranberry Bark, the perfect recipe for you chocolate lovers out there!
This is a great gift for others or just a fun dessert to offer at your next holiday party. You can get creative with this bark and add whatever items you like best. The best part is how pretty and professional you can make it look, even if you have little to no experience in the kitchen.
- 4oz dark chocolate
- 1 tbs unsalted butter or coconut oil
- 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/4 cup dried cranberries
- 1/4 cup sliced almonds (we used Trader Joe’s Honey Roasted Almonds)
- Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside.
- In a small saucepan, heat chocolate and butter over low heat, stirring until melted and smooth.
- Pour chocolate onto prepared pan and spread out evenly.
- Sprinkle with almonds and cranberries, then place into the freezer for 20-30 minutes or until hardened.
- Remove from freezer and break into pieces. Enjoy!
