This week we’re talking through mindless eating, the power of the PAUSE, & how to get back to a more mindful eating rhythm
We do things out of habit. Eating usually is on autopilot. Have you ever felt bored and then find yourself suddenly reaching out for a bag of chips? Or do you find yourself eating ice cream when you are stressed? Today we will talk about how “the pause” can help you stop mindless eating and overeating. Mindless Eating: There is POWER IN THE PAUSE
-
- We do everything on automation nowadays, on autopilot. Food gets grouped into that unfortunately more often that we’d like to admit.
- Have you ever felt stress and found yourself eating in the kitchen because of it…mindlessly? What about bored, and all of a sudden at the bottom of the chip bag?
- “Most of us don’t mindless or overeat because we’re truly hungry. Most of us do so because of labels, colors, packages and plates, shapes and smells, and distractions.
THERE IS POWER IN THE PAUSE, when it comes to mindless eating
- PAUSE before eating anything, as this will get yourself off autopilot, and ask these very simple questions in a few seconds
- Am I actually hungry?
- Yes?
- No?
- What am I feeling?
- Hunger?
- Stress?
- Boredom?
- Sadness?
- Wanting to procrastinate?
- Will eating this satisfy that feeling?
- Yes? Then eat!
- No? Then walk away or choose something different
- *super stressful day and you find yourself in the kitchen…
- Am I actually hungry?
- This alone, can help common issues like:
- Eating when stressed, only to feel more stressed
- Eating something you didn’t really want, and therefore overeating other things after
- Just eating things here and there mindlessly without even realizing it
- Some extra tips for more mindful eating
- Sit down when eating
- When eating, ONLY eat (no multitasking)
- Eat with others vs alone as you can
- Eat ENOUGH to feel full, so you aren’t constantly grazing after a meal
- Think about the flavors you’re eating vs. just rushing the process. Savor EVERY bite, not just the last one.
Remember food is FUEL, not therapy 🙂
