Self Love but not complacency. Living healthy but not falling into obsessive behaviors. It’s a hard place to find, right?
It won’t be the popular opinion, but I’m starting to see both extremes too much. Claiming self love, but being complacent with bettering themselves and their health — or on the other side, hating their bodies so much that they punish them into workouts and ‘healthy eating”.
The sweet spot? Loving yourself at EVERY part of the journey, yet always working on a better version of YOU too.
As we go into the new year, I know falling into EXTREMES in easier than ever.
Either hating your body and trying to “discipline” it through healthy food and workouts. Or, on the other side, claiming self love and falling into complacency — not truly honoring their bodies.
1 Cor 6:19-20 has always been one of my foundational principles and core values of WHY I do what I do. Why I honor my body and why I also love helping others learn how to. Here’s what the verses say:
“Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; 20 you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.
I truly feel that means to honor our bodies in ALL ways, including through fueling it well and moving it.
And that’s why I believe we’ve got to find that sweet spot. The spot where we DO have self love, no matter where we are at in our journey, but at the same time, are always working on a better version of ourselves too!
So as we get closer to the New Year, I want to give some do’s and don’ts to help you live out a truly #freshfitnhealthy lifestyle
- DO take time today to write down goals — in all areas of life
- Then, DON’T wait until 1/1 to start working on a better version of yourself
- DO make smaller sustainable changes
- DON’T try the next new diet or cleanse out on IG or tiktok (celery juice, ACV, etc)
- DO work on adding good things (nutritious foods and movement), versus just saying I CANT have _____
- DO honor your body through movement and nutrition because you LOVE it, not hate it.
- DO speak positive affirmations over your body and life, even if you can’t fully believe the words right away. It will come.
- DON’T have an all or nothing mentality — where if you “mess up” once, you throw everything out the door
- DON’T feel you have to be keto, or paleo, or do whole30 to be healthy
- DO try to limit processed foods, and eat more whole foods… proteins fats and carbs
- DO find accountability and community, to keep you inspired and motivated
- DON’T forget about stress management and sleep… these matter
- DO begin working on removing toxins and chemicals (from both your pantry and overall home), and replacing with more natural alternatives. I can’t tell you how much I’ve been reading up on all of this and how it can truly affect our hormones and overall health!
- DON’T beat yourself up when progress isn’t seen as quickly as you’d like
- DO focus on ALL forms of progress, not just weight or numbers. Remember, it’s a JOURNEY, not about a destination.
Finding the sweet spot between self-love and still working on a better version of yourself, is a really hard place to find. As we go into the New Year, falling into extremes is easier than ever.
Let’s change things this year. Let’s commit to healthy living AND self love, simultaneously.
