A Little Bit about Robyn
Robyn is a registered Dietitian who has healed herself of several health issues by her diet and lifestyle changes. Robyn actually lost her cycle and was diagnosed with polycystic ovarian syndrome, PCOS, but didn’t give up. These lifestyle changes made such an impact in her own life she decided to dive deeper and started Her Hormones Academy where she helps women learn about their hormones, fix their menstrual problems, infertility, and coming off of birth control.
We all know that as a woman, when our hormones are off everything else is affected. Robyn and I talk about how important learning about our female body is and the crucial role hormones play.
“I love Fixing things by hitting the root versus just trying to mask the symptom.”
Even something as simple as the common myth between dairy and acne. The first step in helping your acne is knowing if your acne is hormonal or not. Hormonal acne comes a week or two before your period and is normally present on your chin. The next step is knowing whether dairy personally affects you or not, and how much your body can tolerate. She recommends to trial 3-6 months without dairy to see if it makes a difference.
So how do you tell if your hormones are imbalanced?
This discussion starts by debunking the common misconception that symptom’s such as PMSing, acne, or bloating around that time of the month is normal. These are actually signs that something hormonally in your body is off, and should be listened to. Listening to your body is so important in order to thrive and live a hormonally balanced lifestyle feeling the best version of yourself! As Robyn said
“If we listen to our bodies whisper, you don’t have to hear it scream.”
Catching issues as they arise is so important in preventing them from getting worse in the future.
3 simple yet effective tips on how to help your hormones and feel your best:
- Eat a healthy diet consisting of real foods. Combining a healthy choice of a fat, protein, and a carb will fill you up and provide your body with the energy it needs to fuel itself as well as the nutrients it needs.
- Eat more fiber! Robyn recommends eating between 25-40 grams of fiber a day! Fiber plays a role in gut health which in return affects your estrogen levels, and excretion.
- Take sleep seriously! Sleep is just as important as eating enough and exercising. Getting between 7-8 hours of sleep every night is vital for your health and balancing your hormones.
Eating for your Blood Type
Eating for your blood type and women’s health is related to lectins in food types and lectin in blood. There’s not one specific diet Robyn has people follow, because it’s all about what the individual needs. Blood type is one diet you can pull from and see value from, as aspects from other diets and make it work for you.
When it comes to eating based on your genetics, your DNA doesn’t change but you can change the way your DNA expresses itself. Identify whats stuck, and what tools you need to understand your body and tools to take action and help fix it. Dna is part of the tools in the toolbox.
Now… when it comes to menopause
First starting steps supporting one going through menopause:
- Start optizmizing diet. Building real food. Some women need to lower carbs bc as you lose estrogn you loose insulin sensitiviiy.
- Feel better if carbs are lower
- Nutrient dense foods: green leaf veggies, zinc, protein, amino acids, mineral
- Keeping blood sugar stable
- Taking care of the stress
- Don’t be hard on yourself!
- Herbs can help as well! For adrenal or stress support
- Have to take care of stress piece first
If you’re experiencing hormonal symptom’s- know you should get your period without symptom’s. Pms, breast tenderness, acne, bloating, are pieces of info you should use. I couldn’t believe to find out that ideally you shouldn’t get symptom’s- your period should actually be a surprise!
