After purchasing some SuPeRfOoDs online, I couldn’t wait to use them. I knew these superfood truffles were exactly what I wanted to experiment with.
Cacao powder is something I got a little bit ago, as you can probably see from my recent creations with it like my paleo Cacao Banana Muffins, and my single serving Chocolate Cake. It’s easy to utilize cacao in my every day. But there were some newer purchases that weren’t so easy.
My mom and I had read about all the benefits of Maca Powder and Spirulina (listed below), and couldn’t wait to begin incorporating them into our daily diet.
But then I got the Maca and Spirulina powders, and both were pretty hard to simply consume by adding into something. My mom on one hand, loved just simply dipping apples into the maca powder, but I couldn’t stand the taste to be honest. And that’s when I went on the experimenting journey to come up with something I did like the taste of with all of these things in them.
I already had flaxseeds, chia seeds, raw honey..and now I had my stash of cacao powder, maca powder, and spirulina. I was set and ready to make something yummy that would supply me energy and lots of superfood benefits. Also known as these healthy, energizing superfood truffles.
Want to know just how good some of these superfoods are for you? Heres the low down on the two newest purchases after reading about them. Just more reasons why you should make these healthy superfood truffles!
Maca Benefits
- Energy: Within just a few minutes of consuming maca, people have reported to feel their mood and energy levels lift almost instantly. Try adding a teaspoon of maca to your smoothie to increase energy, stamina, and endurance.
- Mood balance: Maca may help to alleviate the symptoms of stress, anxiety, and depression by balancing hormones with its unique set of nutrients that fuel the endocrine system.
- Sexual health: Known as a libido booster, maca is widely used to promote sexual function for both men and women as well as improve onhealthy soma fertility and stamina.
- Women’s health: Maca has been used for generations to help relieve menstrual issues such as cramps, hot flashes, and mood swings. If you’re pregnant or nursing, check with your doctor before consuming maca.
- Healthy skin: Maca root helps to nourish the skin and improve collagen synthesis resulting in firmer, softer, more radiant skin.
Spirulina Benefits
1. Protein- Spirulina is said to be a complete protein, containing between 55 – 77% protein and all nine essential amino acids, which makes it an excellent choice if you’re on a plant-based diet. Protein is essential for muscle repair, tissue growth, regulating hormones, and controlling your metabolism.
2. Beta-carotene- Research shows that the beta-carotene content in Spirulina is higher than any other plant on our planet and contains 10 times more of this compound than carrots. Beta-carotene promotes heart health by lowering cholesterol and may help protect against certain cancers due to their potency as an antioxidant.
3. Essential fatty acids– Spirulina has a range of essential fatty acids including gamma-linolenic acid (GLA), which is one of the rarest essential fatty acids. GLA helps reduce inflammation in the body and regulate the immune system.
4. Vitamins- B vitamins including B1 (thiamine), B2 (riboflavin), B3 (nicotinamide), B6 (pyridoxine), B9 (folic acid) as well as vitamins C, D, and E are found in Spirulina. It also contains high amounts of vitamin B12, which is primarily found in animal products. B12 is essential for maintaining the health of our nervous system and energy production in the body.
5. Minerals- Spirulina is grown in shallow ponds that contain high concentrations of minerals including, but not limited to, calcium, potassium, zinc, magnesium, manganese, selenium, and iron. These minerals are essential in promoting optimal health and wellness.
6. Phytonutrients- Spirulina is extremely rich in chlorophyll, a natural chemical that helps detoxify the body and boost the immune system.
Now are you convinced you should buy these and try this recipe out?! I think you most certainly should.
